Despite its benefits, chocolate consumption comes with drawbacks.
Recent research highlights that chocolate can benefit heart health. Dutch scientists found that older adults consuming chocolate have lower blood pressure, which benefits the heart. Additionally, the risk of arterial blockages leading to seizures is notably reduced. Cocoa contains compounds that promote healthy blood circulation.
They suggest there are superior options for enhancing health. Since the 17th century, scientists have explored the chocolate-heart health connection. The Netherlands' 15-year study is the first to show a direct correlation between chocolate and heart health. Cocoa, the source of chocolate, has a chemical called flavone-3 oil that aids in blood pressure reduction.
Conversely, the British Heart Foundation notes that small amounts of dark chocolate can positively impact circulation, but the long-term effects remain uncertain. Overall, chocolate has more drawbacks than benefits.
